Overall responsibility for the HR, L&D and EDI functions

Hours: 37 hours per week

 

Overall team / department purpose

- The Human Resources, Learning & Development and Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Teams are responsible for developing and implementing operational people management programmes and initiatives that support the business to achieve its vision, values and corporate plan objectives.

- This includes all people related activities, with the overall aim of attracting, motivating, developing, and retaining high quality colleagues whilst increasing business performance.

Key role priorities

- This role is responsible for leading, managing, developing and maximising the performance of the Human Resources (HR), Learning & Development (L&D) and Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (ED&I) Teams. Ensuring that effective and innovative strategies, plans and processes are in place which are aligned with the corporate plan whilst ensuring that regulatory and statutory requirements are met.

- This role is responsible for providing expert professional advice to the Executive Team, CEO and Board in all areas of HR, Learning & Development, and EDI.

- As a member of the Directors Team, the holder is expected to actively contribute to operational planning, decision making and strategy implementation across the business.

Key working relationships

- The role holder is required to provide its direct reports and the whole department with effective leadership, guidance and support.  This includes ensuring each team has the capacity, skills and commitment to support achievement of all business objectives.

- The role holder is required to influence, provide specialist advice to and work effectively with all colleagues across the business.

- The role holder is required to support the business in line with legislation requirements and best practice to the Executive Team, CEO and Board regarding current and future HR, L&D and EDI matters.

- The role holder is required to liaise effectively with external agencies, advisors and other stakeholders and organisations as appropriate and to represent the business at high level in a broad range of settings.

- The holder is expected to provide peer leadership and challenge across functions to drive overall business performance.

Main duties & responsibilities

- Provide leadership for the People Services functions, ensuring the business continually has in place the most effective strategies and appropriately resourced associated plans and activities.

- Develop People Services, strategies and supporting action plans to embed a consistent, ambitious, best practice led approach

- Deliver a ‘business partner’ approach to provide specialist support activities

- Ensure direct reports have the capacity and capability to maximise the performance of their teams.

- Be accountable for compliance with current regulations, professional standards, policies and procedures and legislation.

- Oversee the development and implementation of succession planning.

- Analyse and review HR statistical reports to identify trends, so that key issues and resources are adjusted accordingly.

- Design and lead the performance review programme that supports continuous development for all employees.

- Ensure risk, control and performanceis embedded within People Services and are managed, monitored and reported in support of the business objectives.

- Lead on People Services matters for the Board and Remuneration Committee.

- Identify and develop strategic external relationships that will enhance the provision of People Services support activities.

- Identify and develop the approach to  learning and development to ensure a colleague orientated, high performance culture that’s supports empowerment, quality, goal attainment and the on-going development for all colleagues

- Keep abreast of all best practice and relevant legislation, ensuring the implementation of any changes for the business.

- Responsible for financial planning, budgeting, and financial reporting of functional budgets.

- Develop a high performing team, acting as coach, guide, and leader to all team members.

- Act as a proactive member of the Group’s Director’s Team.

- Appoint, manage, and ensure the effective use of any external agencies or advisors.

- Effectively represent the business - attending meetings, conferences and events as appropriate.

- Complete any other tasks as commensurate with the level and nature of the posts as delegated by the role’s line manager.

- Achievement of strategic and operational objectives for the People Services strategies in line with the corporate plan, demonstrated by ongoing reporting and development.

- Recognition of excellence in service provision by internal customers.

- Most effective use of overall function resources and budget.

- Relevant legislation and best practice always adhered to

- Recognition of achievement of best practice through external accreditations and awards

- Effective leadership demonstrated through feedback and function performance.

- Establishment of control risk self-assessment for key controls and full compliance with Internal Audit recommendations. 3rd party supplier relationships managed to ensure the Group receives best value for money.

- Statutory and regulatory compliance requirements are achieved
